Rocky Mountain Adaptive Sports Centre

About us

The Rocky Mountain Adaptive Sports Centre (RMASC) is a Not for Profit Society, with the primary aim of providing any individual with a disability the chance to access all sporting and recreational activities in the Canadian Rockies. Based in Canmore, Alberta, RMASC is making strides in enabling children and adults with any physical, intellectual, cognitive, or developmental impairment to participate in all the fantastic sports and adventure activities that are available in the stunningly beautiful Bow Valley, including Canmore, Banff, Lake Louise and its surrounding areas.

The idea of RMASC has been our dream for some time.  It all started when we set up Adaptive ski lessons at Sunshine Village, which were for the benefit of some local children from Banff and Canmore.  These lessons progressed into the development of the 10 Week Therapeutic Ski and Snowboard Program which now boasts over 25 participants.  The program enriches the lives of children with disabilities from the bow valley and Calgary as well as their families lives.  In addition to the 10 Week program, we also offer products that enable individuals with disabilities from across Alberta, Canada and internationally to come and experience snow sports at various ski resorts.

Here at RMASC, our dream is to promote and grow opportunities in all sports and recreation in the area and to be available to everyone regardless of their physical and intellectual ability.  We have seen first hand the benefits of participation in sport and recreation in our programs. These benefits go further than just the social aspects of equality and inclusion, extending to personal benefits that include increased independence, self esteem, strength, coordination, mobility, health, and the general well being of individuals.

The RMASC Mission:

‘To enable all children and adults with intellectual, physical, or cognitive impairments to access, learn and participate in all sport and recreation activities in the Canadian Rockies.  NO LIMITS’

Our Mission is simple to understand.  We want the individuals that we will serve and provide opportunities for, to strive and persevere to overcome any challenges that present themselves in order to achieve the fulfillment of our aims.

‘No Limits’ is more than just a phrase, it is a mentality of many individuals with varying challenges.  No matter what difficulties or obstacles lay in the way of achieving a goal, there is the determination and solutions to overcome them.  RMASC will aim to cultivate this mentality and spread it to others that we meet and that use our services, as well as applying the same mentality to the growth and development of our own organization.

RMASC Vision Statement:

‘To be a world-class leader in adaptive sport and recreation.

To include anyone: from those trying an activity for the first time to the elite athletic standard.

To promote and use sport and recreation in the world class area of the Canadian Rockies to enrich the lives of children and adults with disabilities and their families and to create a setting for these individuals which will increase independence, confidence, self esteem, strength, coordination and general well being.’

RMASC’s mission and vision go hand in hand.  The first step is to create a platform where there are programs and equipment in place to offer individuals with disabilities the chance to participate in whatever activities they desire.  The next is to use this platform to benefit and enhance the lives of individuals with different impairments, as our vision states.

We look forward to seeing you in the mountains soon,

Kind regards,

Jamie McCulloch
